This looks delicious! I’m going to FINALLY use the freeze dried tart cherries in my cupboard and use them as the dusting and add some to the whipped cream. Happy Mother’s Day, Sohla!
Omg the section on the bad gifts hit so hard. I have given so many bad gifts because the relationship is complicated. Really gave me a perspective on how I can reframe my approach. Also seriously love this newsletter format!
Man, I have drooled over that play kitchen (tragically too big for my space) and I knew exactly the play food set you were talking about before I even clicked through. Does my kid need little fake shrimp that come out of the bag individually? No, his hand-me-down foods work just fine for his needs. I eventually had to accept the reality that it's really all for meeeee
Seconding the recommendation for the WellnessMats anti-fatigue mat. I’ve had mine for over ten years(?) and it’s survived two big moves and is in really good shape. The dog loves to scratch it, and the damage is only superficial. I keep it in front of my counter for when I’m standing around prepping a lot of veggies, but I’ll move it around if needed! It HAS to be the brand name version though — the knockoffs just won’t do.
I'm here for the recipes and the parasocial delusion that we'd be friends irl (which is how I talk to my wife about your newest video or whenever I make something from your book). So the horror movie recs are a truly excellent bonus bc horror movies are how I'm coping with the real-life horrors of living in America in 2026.
I love hearing about your daughter :) (I now have 3, all currently under 4 😳😍). The sleep sack rejection is so funny, then so frustrating- thanks for reminding me that it’s time to get my almost 2-yr-old a blanket & sheets! Great gift recs and Dutch baby is a fav in our house so I’ll have to try yours!
Love this newsletter format. A little snapshot of Sohla. Yay!

Sohla: "Make the baby batter" is diabolical. 😆
Exactly how I feel about these gift guides 🤌🏻
The joy of a new blanket and giving/getting a thoughtful gift 💚 So sweet. Adding buy Sohla's cookbook to my list
Hip hip hooray for the Jasper Hill shoutout! Also, I was gifted Start Here for Mother’s Day two years ago and remain obsessed with this book!!

The Kyte Baby 'Walker', put on backwards was what saved us when toddler started unzipping herself.
Why didn’t I think of that!

I live in Petite Plume! Great choices. Thank you for saying this out loud.
Just here talking about the important things

It’s kind of mild blowing how well it’s held up!
Recommending a workplace horror/dark comedy called Kombucha…lots of fun and perfect to unwind.
On it!
when my big girl was about 18 months old she started taking off her sleep sack and zippered pyjamas at night- those bad boys went on backwards ha ha!
that looks absolutely delicious!
